Diogo Jota has claimed that his Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah is reaching a similar level to Cristiano Ronaldo after his electrifying start to the season.
So far Salah has scored 15 goals in 14 appearances for Liverpool, prompting many to label the Egyptian international the best in the world in his current form.
And Jota is well placed to measure Salah’s ability compared to players like Ronaldo, having played alongside him on the international stage with Portugal.
Diogo Jota praised the form of his Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah
Salah has scored 15 goals in 14 appearances so far for Liverpool in the 2021-22 season.
Talking to Sky sportsJota said: ‘He’s scoring goals for fun. Big goals, individual goals, and for us this is useful because we have someone on the field who can decide the game, and for the opponents they know they have to be careful and then we can take the spaces they leave because they are too worried about him.
“ I had that first feeling when I played for the national team with Ronaldo and I think I can put him (Salah) there on the same standards, even though Ronaldo has been doing it for a long time.
“When they are on the field they are dangerous and they can score at any time. And for me that is very useful, since I can see them and learn from them. ‘
Jota himself will be on the lookout for a prolonged streak of first-team action for Liverpool, starting with Sunday’s clash against West Ham, following Roberto Firmino’s hamstring injury.
Jota has drawn parallels with Salah and his partner in Portugal, Cristiano Ronaldo
Firmino was injured in the midweek victory over Atlético de Madrid and Jurgen Klopp revealed this Friday that the Brazilian will be out for more than four weeks.
Jota, 24, has scored five goals in 13 appearances for Liverpool in all competitions in the 2020-21 season.
If Liverpool beat high-flying West Ham on Sunday, they will move second in the Premier League and one point behind leaders Chelsea.
