Police in Devon are ramping up a search for a 12-year-old girl who disappeared from her home eight days ago and missed Christmas celebrations with her family.
Devon and Cornwall police said they were increasingly concerned about the well-being of Leona Peach, who was reported missing on December 20 in the Newton Abbot area.
Leona, who is six feet tall, was wearing flip flops and carrying a pink bag when she was last seen in the Whole Park area of the town in south Devon.
She is originally from north Devon and a line of inquiry the police are looking at is that she may have traveled to the Bideford area.
In a statement, police said: “Police are increasingly concerned for the well-being of 12-year-old Leona Peach, who has been reported missing in the Newton Abbot area, and are urging her to contact her.
“Leona was last seen in the Whole Park area of Newton Abbot on Monday, December 20 at around 9:15 am. Originally from north Devon, officers believe she traveled to Bideford.”
Police have urged Leona to contact her family in Newton Abbot.
DI Dave Pebworth said: “The investigation into our efforts to locate Leona continues and we are asking the public to help us out.
“We support her friends and family and are calling on Leona to contact home so they know she is safe and sound.
“This time of year is especially important for families and we want to make sure she’s doing well and encourage anyone who’s with her to get in touch with her family in Newton Abbot.
“Leona, if you’re reading this, we want you to know you’re okay. Please contact us, or someone you trust, to let us know you’re safe.”
She is described as Caucasian and slender to medium-sized. She is about six feet tall, has hazel eyes and long brown hair that reaches halfway down her back. She has a bald spot above her right ear.
Leona is said to have worn gray/blue leggings or skinny pants with a dark-colored fur coat and flip flops. She had a pink bag with her.
Police have urged anyone who has seen Leona or knows where she is to call 999 immediately, citing log number 0222 dated 12/20/21.
