Denise Austin still slim at 65! The fitness guru on 10 minute workouts and mini meals

Denise Austin was the biggest fitness queen of the 1980s and 1990s, and she still looks great thanks to a healthy lifestyle.

The 65-year-old blonde beauty – who recently wowed on the Sports Illustrated Miami runway with her mini-me daughter – spoke exclusively to the DailyMail about how she stays slim even with temptation all around. The star is also promoting his new partnership with Easy Spirit.

The exercise advocate’s answer to fighting the bulge is taking small steps: It turns out that not only does she exercise several times a day in small intervals, but she keeps her portions small, relying on protein and vegetables while going easy on the carbs .

‘I’ve been doing this for 40 years and I’m not a fitness freak’, she immediately clarifies during the interview. “But I’m consistent.”

This means exercising every day in some form.

“If you can work out 10 minutes at a time and do it three times a day, you’ve worked out 30 minutes in a day,” remarked the star in her charmingly relatable manner.

And she added that it is important to keep moving all day long: ‘It’s about blood circulation and movement. I even get up and walk around when I’m watching TV just to keep it flowing.’

Sounds like smart math and an easy way to lean into working out.

“Consistency pays off,” added the loving pinup, who is very active on Instagram.

One way she likes to exercise is walking: ‘It’s a healthy way to feel better and improved mood and sleep. Exercise is the best pre-meditative medicine.’

Her love of walking explains why she collaborated with Light Spirit, which makes comfortable, light shoes. The line is called Easy Spirit x Denise Austin Collaboration.

And exercise is about more than looking good: ‘I like to exercise to feel good. I feel energetic after a walk, the endorphins get going and flow, it helps with stress and anxiety and pent-up emotions.’

Another tip is that she watches her posture: ‘Not many people think about posture these days, but if you stand up straight, you pull in your abs and you’re really working out without working out, so I’d say that it’s one of my best tips because it requires minimal effort but gives maximum results if you do it often.’

As for food, she watches what she eats, but keeps it delicious. And her portions are just right for shedding the pounds.

“I eat smaller portions,” Denise noted. “For dinner I can have salmon and vegetables. A snack is flaxseed with yogurt. I love avocados and eggs for breakfast.

‘I cook really healthy for my family. There are many salads, chicken tacos, vegetable lasagnas, casseroles with less cheese.’

But she is not always careful: ‘I eat well 80 percent of the time, and the other 20 percent I am bad.’

She refers to the popular 80/20 diet method, which allows for cheat days. Some of the things she loves to cheat on: carbs and sugar.
