West Ham coach David Moyes has condemned the anti-Semitic chants directed at a passenger on a Ryanair flight to Genk, insisting that this minority of ignorant fans does not represent the club.

Images were released on social media showing a group of supporters, flying to Belgium for their team’s Europa League game, singing an offensive song as a Jew walked down the aisle to take a seat. He also made reference to his rivals Tottenham.

West Ham said they were “dismayed” by the video, which clouded a night in which they secured early qualification for the knockout stages with a 2-2 draw.

The club is in contact with the airline and the relevant authorities in an attempt to identify the culprits, who will receive indefinite bans.

Moyes, speaking ahead of Liverpool’s visit to the London stadium on Sunday, said: ‘First of all, I don’t see our football club being like this.

“I think we are a diverse soccer club and there is no place for discrimination anywhere in the world. Not just in West Ham but anywhere in the world.

“I am really disappointed to hear it, but I am sure that it is about individuals and not large sectors of the fans. I’m sorry to hear about that. ‘

Moyes supports issuing bans for these people and said: ‘I want this soccer club to be recognized for being a really good soccer team.

“I want it to be recognized for being a great club in London and highly respected. To have that, you have to have followers that follow your team from home and away, which we have.

“We have incredible support in West Ham, but we don’t want any labels attached to us regarding discrimination, racism, any of that.”
