For the first time in two weeks, it is predicted that dangerous firemen will return to Southern California on Sunday, as dry, strong Santa Ana winds – with gusts of wind up to 50 mph – are expected to return from the desert.

According to the National Weather Service, there are Sunday warnings for a wide stretch of Southern California, from Ventura County to Orange County, the Inland Empire, and most of San Diego County. The mountains of Los Angeles County and the valleys of San Fernando and Santa Clarita also run a high fire department risk.

The air is expected to be fairly dry, with a forecast of the minimum relative humidity to perhaps fall below 10%, the predictors say. Meanwhile, the weather is expected to be hot, and the maximum temperatures for this time of year can be broken in downtown Los Angeles, Los Angeles International Airport and Long Beach, as highs in the 80s and 90s.

Red flag warnings start at 1 am Sunday. "If a fire starts, the circumstances can be favorable for extreme fire behavior that could threaten lives and property," warned the weather service. The vegetation remains tinder dry, whereby Los Angeles has not received an inch of rain since October 1; the average rainfall for this time by November 15 is just over 1 inch of rain.

The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center said areas with the most critical firefighting risk are in the Santa Clarita Valley and Ventura County.

Both regions & # 39; s have been hit by major forest fires in recent weeks; the fire in Santa Clarita has burned more than 4,600 hectares and destroyed 29 buildings; the easy fire in Simi Valley that chewed at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library burned more than 1,800 hectares, destroying at least two buildings. Both fires are completely enclosed.

Critically dry weeds and grasses that grew after the last relatively wet rainy season that ended on June 30, in combination with dead vegetation due to years of drought, are of particular importance during such weather conditions.

Most of California is either abnormally dry or in moderate drought, according to the US drought monitor. All coastal areas of Southern California are considered abnormally dry, according to data released on Thursday.

Farther north, meteorologists in the San Francisco Bay Area warn that there may be increased firemen from Wednesday afternoon, while the dry, flaky Diablo returns from the northeast.

In Southern California, the first rain of the season could arrive mid-week, followed by a period of cloudy, cool, humid conditions at the end of the week.

Low pressure to the south along the west coast is expected to change the wind pattern on Tuesday and send cooler sea breezes through Southern California, causing temperatures and clouds to rise from north to south later in the day.

In some locations west of the mountains, the temperature can drop by 30 degrees from Sunday to Wednesday. In downtown Los Angeles, for example, where temperatures in the 90s could be low on Sunday, Wednesday is likely to be a high point in the low to mid 60s.

The best chance of moisture can arrive on Wednesday and stay until Thursday.
