Cristiano Ronaldo says Manchester United supporters deserve much more than the lousy display they received against Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Ronaldo and company were beaten 5-0 by their bitter rivals with Mo Salah pocketing a hat-trick.
Ronaldo did get the ball into the net, but his shot was chalked offside.
Taking to Instagram after the game, he said: ‘Sometimes the result is not what we fight for. Sometimes the score is not what we want.
And this is from us, only from us, because there is no one else to blame. Our fans were, once again, amazing in their constant support.
‘They deserve better than this, much better, and it is up to us to deliver. The time is now!
Jurgen Klopp also initially thought that Cristiano Ronaldo’s challenge to Curtis Jones at the end of the first half deserved a red card, but people who had seen TV reruns had persuaded him otherwise.
Cristiano Ronaldo knows that Manchester United deserves much more than Sunday’s exhibition
The United striker sent the midfielder to the ground with a wild swing of his right leg and then, with his frustration boiling over, he hit the ball that was positioned against his opponent’s abdomen on the ground.
“I saw it, of course, and it looked like a red card, but they told me he hit the ball or he didn’t hear the whistle,” Klopp said.
‘I don’t want Cristiano to get a red card. It looked (red) to me but they told me it wasn’t and that’s fine. ”
