Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is out for “a few weeks” and is going to SURGERY after injuring his hand in the team’s Week 1 defeat to the Bucs, according to owner Jerry Jones.

Prescott jogged to the locker room in the fourth quarter after his throwing hand was examined by team doctors on the side of the field, leaving Cowboys fans fearing the worst.

And now those fears have become reality after Jones told the media postgame that Prescott is en route to surgery and will be sidelined for at least the next few weeks.

The injury appeared to occur when the QB hit the hand of Bucs’ outer linebacker Shaq Barrett, and Jones revealed he had fractured near the thumb of his throwing hand.

The news ended a miserable start to the season for the Cowboys, who lost 19-3 to Tom Brady and Tampa Bay at AT&T Stadium.

Prescott is now 2-5 in season openers for his career, completing just 14 of 29 passes for 134 yards before leaving the game late.

Worryingly for Mike McCarthy, the last time the Cowboys scored less than six points in the first game of a season was in 1989. Coincidentally, that was the first game of Jones’ ownership of the team.

Prescott holds the key to their success this season, having signed a four-year $160 million contract in 2021, and his absence will be deeply felt.

The Cowboys are now expected to rely on backup quarterback Cooper Rush for next week’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, who are also looking for their first win of the season after losing to the Steelers in extra time earlier on Sunday. .
