Corona Centennial football coach Matt Logan surprised the world of high school in 2014 when the Huskies won the Southern Section Division 1 championship by alternating quarterbacks Anthony Catalano and Nate Kettingham with each new series.

Now he has taken his mad scientist to an even stranger level – he plays three quarterbacks. The Huskies will face St. John Bosco at home in a semi-final of Division 1 on Friday evening.

"If you lean back, it seems so crazy," Logan said. "But if you do it, it's not."

It is Carter Freedland's turn. In the next series it is Jake Retzlaff's turn. Then, in the next series, Ala Mikaele gets his chance. It would not work if the quarterbacks were not willing to sacrifice individual statistics for the good of the team. But they are.

"Their statistics are evenly distributed," Logan said. "They are equal in the way they have performed. They each have their days and each play at a high level. It was a good competition for themselves and raised their game level."

Centennial is 10-2. St. John Bosco is 11-1. The big question is whether Centennial has improved enough since the season opened with a loss of 42-12 for Mater Dei.

Logan thinks his team has improved and the use of three quarterbacks has made a difference.
