Conor McGregor has commented on Tony Ferguson’s body transformation as the former UFC interim lightweight champion prepares to return to the welterweight division against Li Jingliang on Saturday.

Ferguson’s UFC 279 co-main event spot against Jingliang will be the first time since 2011 that El Cucuy has competed in the weight class.

After winning the 13th season of The Ultimate Fighter weighing in at 170 pounds, Ferguson spent the rest of his UFC career as a lightweight, embarking on an undefeated streak of 12 fights between 2013 and 2019.

However, after suffering four consecutive defeats in the past two years, Ferguson has chosen to return to welterweight in an effort to re-establish himself in the higher echelons of the UFC.

To accommodate the higher weight limit, Ferguson has expanded for his welterweight return with pre-fight photos of the American showing a marked difference in physique compared to his time at 155 pounds.

Conor McGregor has long been engaged in a war of words with Ferguson, responding in a since-deleted tweet to side-by-side photos of his rival’s body with a few laughing emojis.

McGregor was the reigning UFC lightweight champion when Ferguson won the interim crown by defeating Kevin Lee, and the American used his post-fight interview to try to coax the Notorious into an undisputed showdown.

‘Where you are at McGregor’s fucking piece of shit! I’m going to kick your ass! Defend or clear motherf*****!’ Ferguson said in 2017.

Though they wouldn’t ultimately meet in the Octagon, a win for Ferguson on Saturday could provide the spark to rekindle the pair’s long-running feud.
