MSNBC host Chris Matthews led to criticism for questioning on Tuesday evening Elizabeth Warren in an interview after the Democratic debate, in which he pressured her to explain why people should believe From Mike Bloomberg accusers of the former mayor himself.
During the South Carolina debate, Warren broke the former mayor over a lawsuit in which a female employee claimed to have told her to “kill” it when she discovered she was pregnant. Bloomberg has repeatedly stated that he never said that, but Warren made it clear that she believed his prosecutor.
Matthews asked Warren about the confrontation and said, “Do you believe the former mayor of New York said that to a pregnant employee?” He later asked, “And why would he lie just to protect himself?”
Matthews is now criticizing his refusal to accept that a man would lie about harassment and his inability to understand why Bloomberg would deny the accusation.
Shaunna Thomas, co-founder of the women’s advocacy group UltraViolet even asked that MSNBC dismiss their host and stated: “MSNBC should dismiss Chris Matthews. Today.”
Similarly, Sleeping Giants, social media activist organization, went to Twitter to ask why Matthews is still in the broadcast.
This is rancid.

HuffPost senior reporter, Emily Peck, also showed disapproval in a tweet that called Matthews’ remarks “comically sexist and tone deaf.”
Chris Matthews’ questions for Elizabeth Warren were almost comically sexist and deaf. Matthews apparently struggles to understand why Warren might believe a woman. Even this week, after everything that happened. Here is my take: https://t.co/KyA8GDikvW

HuffPost reporter Sara Boboltz took pleasure in Matthews and claimed that he “doesn’t seem to know what’s going on” while being a screenwriter Josh Olson joked that Matthews was on his way to switch to Fox News.
Warren reformulates his entire question and Chris Matthews does not seem to understand what is going on https://t.co/N4wDZfldfY

Chris Matthews is six months away from his own show at Fox. They can call it The No Spin Zone. I believe that name is available …https://t.co/K2Uyh33VNP

Several other activists and public figures went to Twitter to express their disapproval:
Chris Matthews asks Elizabeth Warren why she believes a female employee who sued Mike Bloomberg for telling her to “kill it” when she was pregnant with Bloomberg.
“Do you believe he is lying? … Why would he lie? Only to protect himself? … you are sure of your accusation?” pic.twitter.com/hVkkQhhXtz

Last night, @HardballChris GRILLED Elizabeth Warren for bringing up Bloomberg’s remark “Kill it” to a pregnant employee. She was under fire, not Bloomberg.
Matthews settled a similar lawsuit in 2017. Lack of women in leadership in the media REALLY. https://t.co/oVm0oBja14

That moment of bewildered silence on Matthews when Warren says, “Why should SHE lie?”
Tells you everything you need to know. https://t.co/vStUp6QqzP

Warren is wonderful here. & Matthews is extremely ridiculous, because he is clearly not even familiar with the story – the WaPo has just printed a piece with a bystander by name, a man who heard Bloomberg respond. https://t.co/ZcwHNcl2k0

It is fascinating to see how Chris Matthews implodes his career this month.
You have to hope that this is at least the second strike. https://t.co/M7VzjfVLEc
