Chelsea punished Manchester City when goals from Erin Cuthbert, Melanie Leupolz and Bethany England sent the London Blues to a 2-0 victory in the FA Cup semi-final.

Manchester City were decimated by their injury crisis and were desperate for the goal of England international Ellie Roebuck or second choice Karen Bardsley, as captain Steph Houghton and FIFA Best Player Lucy Bronze were also on the sidelines.

City started on the stronger side, but it was Chelsea who took the lead when Erin Cuthbert opened the scoring in the 23rd minute. From a corner, the ball fell to the midfielder on the edge of the area and she crashed it into the goal, but City’s third-choice goalkeeper Karima Taieb knew she could have done more to keep her out.

Just 5 minutes later, City were caught again because they failed to clear. Demi Stokes’ header only reached Melanie Leupolz at the edge of the box. The German controlled the ball before letting it rip with a low shot that beat Taieb at her near post.

Emma Hayes’ team well and truly booked their ticket to Wembley when the reigning champions crashed into Beth England’s goal. With one minute to go, England launched a header into the top corner of a Jessie Fleming cross.
