Joe Cole praises Mason Mount as ‘one of the nation’s most outstanding players’ after the Chelsea star scored a brilliant hat-trick against Norwich … while Chris Sutton praises the playmaker as ‘wonderful’
Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole praised Mason Mount after his brilliant hat-trick against Norwich on Saturday afternoon.
Mount scored his first hat-trick for the Blues in a 7-0 win over Canarias to end their goal drought that dates back to a Champions League semi-final victory over Real Madrid in May.
Cole praised the 22-year-old as “one of the most outstanding artists in the country” and, like his colleague, Chris Sutton questioned why some fans do not rate the England international.
Mason Mount was the star man against Norwich after scoring his first hat-trick for Chelsea
Speaking about BT Sport, Cole said: ‘No, it doesn’t (get the applause it deserves). It does so from within the game.
‘He is becoming one of the outstanding players in the country. There are a lot of unusual fans who don’t get it.
It must be a tribal thing. I have yet to meet a former player or coach who has a bad word to say about him.
“There have been players who were maybe good enough to pass that they didn’t have a chance. Chelsea continued to persevere with her academy. They are the backbone of the team.
“Every great team has a core of local players who connect with the fans who know what it means to be a Chelsea player. [Reece] James can really push anyone at that right back point. ‘
Also speaking of Mount, Sutton said: ‘I just don’t get it, there are fans who don’t rate Mount. Why?

Cole’s fellow savvy Chris Sutton can’t understand why some fans don’t rate Mount ‘versatile’
“He is such a versatile player that he takes information. He is a wonderful player, I do not understand those who doubt. ”
He added: ‘For Chelsea it’s about winning trophies, but they have a crop of youngsters, any club in the country would want them, like Mount, [Callum] Hudson-Odoi.
“That’s why I think Chelsea will win the league, they have the strongest team.”
Norwich’s 7-0 win leaves Thomas Tuchel’s men four points clear at the top of the Premier League after nine games.
