Chelsea goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has questioned his surprise Ballon d’Or snub and says the decision may have been due to his nationality.
Mendy, 29, has been a star of his club since arriving from Rennes, having won the Champions League and dazzled in the Premier League, but missed the 30-man roster for the prestigious award.
Initially, the cap insisted that it was not an ‘injustice’ not to receive a nomination, but now he has pointed to the process and believes that he would have made the cut if he had played for France.

Speaking to Canal Plus, Senegal star Mendy said: ‘It’s something that motivates me and pushes me to work. Honestly, I wonder.
‘If I had played for France and participated in the [European Championships]Would we have this debate and this reflection? ‘
Several of his teammates have revealed their surprise at Mendy’s absence, although last month the fit player took a more sensible stance.
Mendy has starred for the club since arriving in the summer of 2020, but missed this year.
