Talks between the club and Chalobah representatives have been going on for some time and a new long-term contract is close to being agreed, according to soccer, london.

The new deal represents a change of course for the defender, who joined Chelsea at the age of eight, as in early August the plan was still for him to go out on loan once again with various clubs across Europe who said they were interested.

But the 22-year-old’s great performance in the Super Cup against Villareal cemented his place at Stamford Bridge.

Since then, the defender has made eight appearances this season, and Chelsea have yet to concede a goal in the top flight in open play with him at their side.

But Chalobah has not only contributed to Chelsea’s campaign atop the table from the baseline, scoring his first goal for the Blues in his first game of the season against Crystal Palace.
