Maintain matching kitchen sets

To make sure you have a well-organized kitchen, Canna said you should maintain matching kitchen sets, including cookware, flatware, and food storage containers.

So you need to delete all mismatched items.

“I’m very strict about this — having matching plates, glasses and cutlery will make your life so much easier when it comes to storing things quickly, easily and efficiently,” she said.

‘Everything fits neatly together, looks neat and organized – and it also adds a sense of harmony and balance. It looks so much easier when you open all your drawers and fridge.’

Embrace multifunctional gadgets

Canna said it’s worth investing in a kitchen appliance that replaces more than one gadget because it “creates so much more space in the kitchen.”

“It just got so much easier to clean and maintain. That’s why I love my Thermomix, because it replaces up to 20 different kitchen gadgets,” she said.

“I’ve been able to get rid of so much stuff in my kitchen—and sell them to the second-hand economy. That way you can store a whole stack of kitchen gadgets that take up so much space on your shelves.’

Clean up regularly

Canna said it’s important to clean out closets and drawers on a regular basis.

“If you find there’s something you just don’t use and it’s frustrating every time you look at it, just let it go,” she said.

“There’s no point wasting space in your kitchen because remember, the more stuff you have in the kitchen, the harder it is to maintain and the longer it will take to keep it clean, organized and tidy.”

She said it’s good to go through your pantry regularly to get rid of expired items.

‘If you discover that there is food that has passed its expiration date or that you no longer use or like, just let it go.

“If you go ahead and clean up regularly, you will find things that you could potentially reuse. It will really save you money and also encourage you to eat all the bits in your house, which will reduce landfill.”

Reuse ingredients in multiple ways

Canna said there are easy ways to replace a missing ingredient in your recipe with other alternatives in your pantry without having to go back to the grocery store.

‘Recently I was baking, I needed almond flour, but I didn’t really have that. However, I had almonds and in seconds I was able to make my own almond flour by putting the almonds in my Thermomix and mixing it,” she explained.

‘The same goes for caster sugar, which you can quickly and easily turn into powdered sugar. That saves me so much time and energy because I don’t have to go back and forth to the supermarket.’

“It makes it quick and easy to clean your kitchen and maintain a sense of minimalism. I will only have on my kitchen countertops what I like, appreciate, use and appreciate. Everything else is simply and neatly tucked away,’ she said.

‘This certainly brings a sense of harmony and tranquility to my kitchen.’
