Canelo Alvarez vs Caleb Plant: UK ring travel time, how to watch, card, odds

Saúl ‘Canelo’ Álvarez goes in search of history on Saturday night, as he faces the American Caleb Plant for the title of undisputed super middleweight champion.

Canelo, undisputed number one pound-for-pound boxing star, currently holds the WBC, WBO and WBA super middleweight belts, and Plant’s IBF belt is the only missing item from his collection.

The all-time Mexican embarked on his 168-pound journey towards the end of 2020, defeating Britain’s Callum Smith to claim the WBA and WBC titles.

Canelo has since dismantled Billy Joe Saunders to claim the WBO strap, and the undefeated Plant now stands in his way to eternal glory.

The pair will step into the ring under the famous lights of MGM in Las Vegas, with genuine animosity between the pair after their explosive press conference in September, where Plant ended up with a cut after a union.

What has been said?

As stated, there is a genuine animosity between the two fighters heading into this weekend’s fight.

Plant came out shooting when the couple came face-to-face in September, calling Canelo a drug cheat, referring to his 2018 six-month ban after testing positive for clenbuterol, which the Mexican insists came from tainted meat.

The American also referred to Oscar Valdez, Canelo’s gym partner, who was not suspended despite testing positive for a prohibited substance.

Plant said: ‘You’ll find out the same time everyone else finds out. And do you know when they found out? When it was too late. That’s when they found out, and that’s exactly when you’re going to find out. ‘

He continued: ‘What the hell are you going to do? For you. And you are a drug cheater. So tell me something. Oscar Valdez tests positive for something and will not be suspended for six months. But he (Canelo) tests positive for something and gets suspended for six months, and isn’t he somehow a drug cheater? ‘

The plant was cut off when Canelo countered the American's attempted attack at the press conference.

Subsequently, Canelo pushed Plant away as the pair clashed, with the latter swinging and missing with a punch. The Mexican, who dodged the coup attempt, then hit a counterattack, drawing blood from his future opponent.

Since then, Canelo has explained why the showdown has gotten so personal.

‘All the talk, all the shit he says. That’s why (he’s so hot), Canelo said. “ He crossed the line and maybe too much so that’s why it’s personal. At the same time, it’s one of the most important fights for me. ‘

He continued: ‘When something is personal to me, it’s different. In my mind I have that special thing. It’s going to be a very good night for us. ‘

Canelo vs Plant: the odds

With Canelo considered the number one pound-for-pound star in the box, it’s no surprise that he’s the big favorite to prevail this weekend.

The Mexican is the favorite with 1/12 to obtain the victory, while Plant is the loser with 6/1.

The hard-hitting Canelo will undoubtedly be pushing for a knockout at all times, which is reflected in the 4/7 odds for a stoppage win. Meanwhile, Canelo to win by decision is at 8/15.

As for Plant, the bookies consider both a win and a draw to be equally unlikely, with odds of 11/1. An unlikely tie is at 25/1.
