Blue Jays Schedule 2020: Dates, Times for Toronto’s Revised MLB Regular Season

MLB has revised the 2020 regular season to 60 games due to the worldwide COVID-19 outbreak. The campaign now runs from July 23 to September 27.

The only MLB club in Canada, The Blue Jays plays all 60 of their games outside of Canada. The federal government in Ottawa has denied the club permission to play at Rogers Center due to concerns about frequent cross-border travel between Canada and the US.

Where Toronto will play its designated home games finally became clear on the day of the season opener on July 24 and less than a week before the “home” opener on July 29. The club has announced that it will play most of its home games at Sahlen Field in Buffalo, NY, home of Jays’ Triple-A partner.

The Jays announced two days later that their first “home game” will be on August 11 vs. the Marlins.

The club had signed an agreement with the Pirates to play at PNC Park in Pittsburgh, but Pennsylvania refused entry.

Regarding the schedule itself: The Jays will compete against the other teams in the AL East (40 games in total) and all five teams in the NL East (20 games) under the new format. That means there will be few breaths for a team that is still in the development phase, even though it has added several experienced starting pitchers during the low season (Hyun-Jin Ryu, Tanner Roark, Chase Anderson).
