Blackpool 0-0 West Brom: Baggies stops road rot by ending four-game losing streak … but Valerien Ismael’s team loses even more ground in Championship auto-promotion venues
- Blackpool held West Brom to a goalless draw in the Championship on Tuesday
- The tie helped the Baggies end a four-game losing streak on the road.
- However, it affected their promotion hopes, and they are seven points behind second.
West Brom halted their four-game road losing streak, but was still frustrated after this stalemate at Bloomfield Road.
Boss Valerien Ismael’s demand for more composure in front of goal was neglected as his team missed numerous opportunities to regain some ground over the leading pair Fulham and Bournemouth.
Albion remains in third place, but after an undefeated 10-game start to the season, they have only managed four points and scored two goals in their last five games.
West Brom has lost more ground in the league
Grady Diangana, Alex Mowatt, Connor Townsend and Karlon Grant didn’t get a good opening in the first half as Blackpool goalkeeper Dan Grimshaw kept busy.
But Albion had goalkeeper Sam Johnstone to thank for keeping them level at half-time with a double save from Gary Madine and Keshi Anderson.
The second half followed a similar pattern of Albion dominance and Blackpool threat at halftime and on set pieces.
Grimshaw came to Blackpool’s rescue again with a late save from Matt Clarke, while Grant sent a deflected opportunity from a low center from Townsend as Albion increased the pressure for the three points.
But newly promoted Blackpool held out and could have scored an unlikely winner after 76 minutes when substitute CJ Hamilton hit his wide shot. Neil Critchley’s team have now dominated Bournemouth and Albion and beat Fulham to show that they should have no problem staying in the division.
