Blackpink star Lisa insisted on a nod to Thai roots in solo music, while promising Blinks ‘won’t be disappointed’ with Lalisa
Blackpink star Lisa stressed the importance of highlighting her Thai heritage in her new solo music.
The rapper revealed that she insisted on incorporating Thai elements into the single Lalisa as a nod to her roots.
After Jennie and Rosé, the K-pop star is the third member of the K-pop group to release solo material. The album, which also features the hip-hop-inspired B-side Money, has racked up more than 800,000 pre-orders in South Korea, a record for any female K-pop artist.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk and other press at an online conference on Friday, she said fans “will not be disappointed” with the look and tone of the title track.
“I was talking to [producer] Teddy Park and wanted to bring a Thai vibe to my song, and he came up with an arrangement that had the perfect Thai vibe. I loved it,” she said.
“I put on a Thai traditional costume – that’s what I wanted to do in the music video. I told the director and the end result is beautiful.
“We’ve incorporated a bit of traditional Thai dance into the choreography, you won’t be disappointed.”
She also revealed how the members of her group supported her in the making of her solo single Lalisa.
Jennie and Rose, along with Jisoo, made sure she felt “reassured” during a lengthy shoot for the Lalisa music video.
Asked about the pressure she felt as the next Blackpink star to go it alone, Lisa said: “Jennie and Rosé did such a great job that I also wanted to keep going and show my energy.
“All the members came to encourage me, even when it was very late, they stayed. It felt reassuring to have them behind me.”
Blinks, the name for Blackpink’s fans, will no doubt want to see what the idol will look like without the iconic bangs she’s known for, as the Kill This Love hitmaker teased a new style.
