Biden promises to choose a running mate in the first week of August

Biden did not want to confirm whether he would meet the finalists in person.

“I’m going to try to figure out how to trick you all so I can meet them in person. You have crews outside my house, ”said Biden, jokingly.

Speculation has increased throughout the summer as multiple candidates are eligible for the position. If elected, 77-year-old Biden is unlikely to pursue a second term in office, and many see his running mate as the standard-bearer for the Democratic Party’s future.

Biden spoke to a possible running mate on Monday, Rep. Karen Bass (D-Calif.), While in the US Capitol to pay his respects to the late Rep. John Lewis. Bass, along with former National Security Adviser Susan Rice, have been in conflict over the past few weeks when Biden allies raised questions about the viability of Senator Kamala Harris (D-Calif.).

The former vice president wants to choose a loyal, trusted, experienced and apolitical running buddy to bond with. But recent POLITICO reporting revealed that there is no consensus.

Speaking at a local community center on Tuesday afternoon, Biden delivered a speech on the fourth plank of his economic recovery plan, aimed at combating racial inequality.

He proposed to spend $ 30 billion to help small business owners of color, and to increase the federal goal of allocating procurement dollars for small “subordinated” businesses from 5 percent to 15 percent. The $ 150 billion spend represents 10 percent of its previously announced $ 300 billion buy-in-America plan.
