The Beyhive probably never expected it Beyoncé to become the reigning queen of surprises, but she is.
Since 2011, Queen Bey has been sending her dedicated legion of fans overdrive with the many unexpected twists in her personal and professional life. To date, she has surprisingly announced four albums, two films, and two pregnancies like no one else could.
It all started at the MTV Video Music Awards in August 2011. When Beyoncé took to the stage to perform her single “Love on Top”, the star-studded audience had no idea she had anything in store – or anyone in her stomach . At the end of the song, she dropped her microphone, unbuttoned her sparkly purple coat and rubbed her belly, revealing that she was pregnant with her and her husband Jay-Zfirst child.
Two years later, the Grammy winner broke the internet when she basically devised the strategy of dropping an entire album without prior notice. Her fifth album of the same name, which included the singles “XO” and “Drunk in Love”, shattered multiple records, and she similarly released three more albums, most notably 2016’s Lemonade.
Beyoncé took a page from her own book in February 2017 when she shared the news of her second pregnancy, this time with twins. However, her stunning Instagram announcement quickly became the most loved post of the social media platform Kylie JennerFirst picture of daughter Stormi and advertising creative Chris GodfreyThe World Record Egg ultimately surpassed it.
The former surprise from the former Destiny’s Child member came in two forms in April 2019: a Netflix concert movie titled Homecoming and an accompanying live album documenting her 2018 Coachella performance. A year later, she dropped the Disney + movie Black is king with music from her Lion king companion album, The gift.
