Too little too late? Almost six weeks after Bravo announced to bond with him Below deck Mediterranean Sea‘s Peter Hunziker, the reality star has said.
“Just over 3 months ago, someone sent me a meme on social media and I thoughtlessly reposted it,” the sailor posted via Instagram on Monday, July 27. “I now realize how painful the imagery and symbolism is and, upon deeper consideration, I realize that the implicit bias that exists in the short text written in the meme is offensive.”
He continued: “Know all those I have hurt and offended that I am truly sorry. I have always supported equal rights and equal opportunities for ALL people. Be safe, stay healthy, and always think before posting. With love, Pete. ‘
The network announced its decision to fire Hunziker, who took part in the show in Season 5 on June 17, and post the news on Instagram after sharing an offensive meme with a black woman in handcuffs.
Peter Hunziker from Below deck Mediterranean Sea ended because of its racist function, ‘Bravo wrote at the time. “Bravo and 51 Minds edit the show to minimize its appearance for subsequent episodes.”
On July 18, the reality star spoke out during an interview with Bravo Confessionals. “It affected me personally. It affected my emotions and I learn a lot, “he said he was taken out of the show. “In life you are sometimes hit [and] you have to get up again. … I will make a comeback and it will get bigger and better. ”
Hunziker was one of many reality stars fired in recent months for racially charged comments. Bravo broke ties with Vanderpump rules‘ Stassi Schroeder, Kristen Doute, Max Boyens and Brett Caprioni because of their comments. In addition, MTV was fired Dee Nyguen from The challenge, Taylor Selfridge from Teen Mom OG and Alex Kompothecras from Siesta Key.
The cast of Vanderpump Rules has since apologized, as have Nyguen and Selfridge.
