The young Barcelona player, Perdi, has suffered a setback in his recovery after a scan on his quadriceps revealed that ‘the scars on his muscle have not healed as expected’.

The 18-year-old suffered a quadriceps injury during Barcelona’s 3-0 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League clash at the Camp Nou last month.

He was later discarded and forced to undergo rehab while he awaited further scans on the muscle. As a result, he missed the Clásico on Sunday.

According to Sport, a scan on Pedri’s quadriceps has shown that the scars on his muscle have not healed as expected.

The Spanish media has also stated that Pedri will ‘take a step back’ in his rehabilitation, as Barcelona is reluctant to rush the process.

The news will come as a heavy blow to Ronald Koeman, as Perdi has become a mainstay of Barcelona’s midfield despite his tender age.

He made 52 appearances in all competitions for the Catalan team last season, after signing in 2019 for 4.2 million pounds.

His exhibits earned him a spot on the Spain team for Euro 2020, with Pedri named as the competition’s Young Player of the Tournament and also on the Team of the Tournament.

In a busy summer for the 18-year-old, Pedri also played for the Spanish Olympics team in Tokyo, but has only played for Barcelona four times this season due to a muscle injury.

Nonetheless, Barcelona will be delighted that Pedri has committed his future to Camp Nou, signing a new long-term contract last week.

The new contract will give Pedri a significant salary increase and will include a massive £ 846 million release clause, designed to scare off European giants like Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.
