Barcelona have won their first Champions League title for women with a stunning 4-0 win over Chelsea in Gothenburg, Sweden.
In a match that seemed impossible on paper, the Spanish side revolted in Gothenburg when goals from Alexia Putellas, Aitana Bonmatí, Caroline Graham Hansen and an own goal from Melanie Leupolz humiliated a grenade-shocked Chelsea side.
The 4-0 score is the highest profit margin of any Champions League final. While this was a bit harsh for a Chelsea side that never stopped fighting, Barcelona more than deserved the win. The Spanish squad was simply too tough for Chelsea and was rightly rewarded for receiving the trophy in Gothenburg.
The win put an end to Lyon’s 5 years of unstoppable dominance in the league and confirmed that Barcelona were Europe’s new powerhouses.
