- He has scored a goal in nine games and incoming coach Xavi wants to get rid
Barcelona are already making plans to remove Luuk de Jong from their records, just two months after signing the Dutch forward on loan.
De Jong arrived at the Camp Nou from Seville at the last minute when Barça made a difficult loan that saw Antoine Griezmann return to Atlético de Madrid to lighten his inflated salary expense and also led Saul Niguez to go to Chelsea.
The Dutch forward, who had been inconsistent with Sevilla and failed at Newcastle, was certainly a surprising choice for Barca given his limited skill set, and his main attribute was his aerial ability.
Barcelona wants to end the loan of Luuk de Jong, two months after his arrival from Sevilla
De Jong’s future is in doubt after manager Ronald Koeman, who signed the forward, was fired.
And now that the club has fired compatriot Ronald Koeman, Barcelona are looking to cut back on their defeats and move the 31-year-old forward.
According to a report by the Catalan newspaper SportBarça is looking to get rid of De Jong in the January transfer window.
Sergi Barjuan has been temporarily put in charge of Barça for their upcoming games against Alavés and Dinamo Kiev, and legendary midfielder Xavi Hernández will be appointed permanent manager next week.
Xavi Hernández will take over as Barça coach next month and is not a De Jong fan
De Jong was a surprise transfer that took place on the day of the transfer deadline in a complicated raid
As the midfield brains of the conquering Barça team of the last decade coached by Pep Guardiola, Xavi is a devout believer in free football, possessively and morally opposed to the direct football that the club had been playing in recent weeks with Koeman.
And according to Sport, the 41-year-old does not want to coach De Jong and wants to ditch the forward to sign another forward in the January window, with Raheem Sterling among the players looking to sign.
The Dutch forward has played nine games for Barça but has only managed to score one goal
Barça’s plans to transfer the forward could be complicated by the fact that the players cannot play for three clubs in one season.
However, De Jong did not play a minute for Sevilla before signing for Barça on August 31, so there should be no obstacles in his way.
The report adds that Turkish Besiktas is one of the clubs interested in signing De Jong, who has scored a goal for Barça in nine games in all competitions.
