Antonio Conte is enjoying the opportunity to bond with Harry Kane and ‘exploit his potential’ as the new Spurs boss claims that ‘all the coaches want to sign’ the England captain
- Harry Kane has only scored once this season for Tottenham in 10 league games
- Antonio Conte is ready for his third game as Spurs boss on Sunday against Leeds
- With the international collapse, Conte is excited for Kane to shoot again.
- The Italian insisted that he is the envy of every coach because he has the forward
Antonio Conte is happy to finally be able to work with Harry Kane and says Tottenham can do ‘big things’ with the forward on board.
The Italian has long admired the 28-year-old and, when he was in charge of Chelsea in 2017, he admitted that if he could sign a forward, he would be the star of Spurs.
Kane has largely prospered since then but has struggled to stay fit in the Premier League this season, scoring just once in 10 appearances and has been linked to a move to Manchester City over the summer.

The Italian manager has been tasked with getting Spurs back on track this season
Speaking before Sunday’s home game with Leeds, Conte said: ‘I think all the coaches want to sign Harry Kane because we are talking about a top, top player, and now I’m enjoying it, I’m in the right place to enjoy Harry and the Tottenham forwards.
‘I have the possibility to work with him, to exploit his characteristics, quality and potential.
“I like working with the forwards and normally in each season my forwards score a lot of goals. It is important to score goals, but it is very important in my idea of football that my number nine is a reference point in what we prepare during the week.
“Harry is a world-class forward and I am very happy to be his coach. Of course, with Harry we can do important things, but not only him because Harry is a player.
England’s skipper had a stuttering start to the season, but now he has the best coach in the world
Conte is convinced of Kane’s quality and believes that managers around the world envy him.
All the players have to work well and if the players work well it means that we will improve and try to fight for something important in the future.
“Harry is an important player, but don’t forget that we won with the team and the whole squad and we lost with the whole squad and the team. He has to assume a great responsibility, but in the same way also others’.
One of Conte’s key first tasks at Spurs will be to get Kane back in shape after firing another blank shot during a draw with Everton, but at least he enjoyed a productive time away with England.
The Three Lions captain scored a hat-trick against Albania and proceeded to score four goals against San Marino on Monday.
Conte was happy to see Kane on target, adding: ‘Scoring is never easy, never, so I am happy for him and for the national team because now England are ready to play the World Cup in Qatar. It is a good achievement.
Kane scored seven goals in two games for the Three Lions in their World Cup qualifiers
‘You saw Italy, we are obliged to play the play-off. I’m happy for Harry because he scored with England. We are talking about a world-class forward and he is an important player for us, so scoring is a boost for him. And I am very happy because I have the opportunity to know him much more.
‘I understood that he is a first-rate player in many respects. He wants to train very, very hard and improve. That’s fantastic for me because my first task is to improve the players, to take the players to another level, another step. In this team, I think a lot of players can do this. ‘
The Spurs will be left without Cristian Romero (hamstring) and Oliver Skipp (suspended) for the Leeds visit. Giovani Lo Celso (knee) will need to be evaluated, but Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg should be fit to start.
