Animal Crossing: New Horizons Update Add Save Data Backup, Trippy Dreams and more

Last month, Animal Crossing: New Horizons released its first major summer update, adding dives and other new features, and now “Wave 2” is on the way. This second summer update, which falls this week, adds fireworks shows, trippy dreams and yes … the long-awaited addition of backups in the cloud. You can watch a quick trailer for Summer Update Wave 2 below.

Here’s some more information on what the will include the latest Animal Crossing update:

  • Fireworks shows – Enjoy atmospheric fireworks every Sunday in August at 7pm that light up the sky above your island. Get in the mood by exchanging Bells for lottery tickets in the square for various festive items to use. Put your own spin on the fireworks by using your own custom design pattern to see it shoot up into the sky like fireworks in the sky!
  • To dream – You can now choose to take a nap in every bed in your house. As you doze off, you may find yourself in a strange realm where Luna greets you. Luna offers visits to other islands as a dream, and with her help you can share your island as a dream with others. She will give those who share their island a ‘dream address’ that players can exchange and use to visit each other’s island in a dream. Nothing you do is stored in dreams, so explore to your heart’s content.
  • Island Backup & Restoration Service – Nintendo Switch Online members can enable the new island backup service, which automatically uploads data from the island and the user to the Internet at specified times. If your Nintendo Switch console is lost or damaged, you may be able to restore your island paradise as long as you have island backup enabled. In case of loss or damage, contact Nintendo Consumer Support about restoring the island and saving data on your new or repaired Nintendo Switch console. After your island data and individual player data have been restored, you can start building your island community again!

Island Backup does not require a subscription to the Nintendo Switch Online service. Nintendo promises that it will introduce the ability to move your Animal Crossing save data to a new system later this year.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is now available on Nintendo Switch. Summer update Wave 2 arrives on Thursday (July 30).
