Alisson, Ederson, Hugo Lloris and Edouard Mendy shortlisted 10-man for the Ballon d’Or Yashin Trophy… as Premier League goalkeepers account for almost HALF of the nominees for the award
Alisson Becker, Ederson, Hugo Lloris and Edouard Mendy have been nominated for the 2022 Ballon d’Or Yashin Trophy, the football award for the best goalkeeper in the world.
The four Premier League stoppers make up a 10-man shortlist for the award, which also includes Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak and Bayern Munich star Manuel Neuer.
Seville’s Yassine Bounou, Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, AC Milan’s Mike Maignan and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Kevin Trapp complete the nominees.
Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson is one of four Premier League stoppers on the list
Chelsea’s Edouard Mendy was second in the race for the world’s best ‘keeper’ last year
Chelsea’s Mendy hopes to do better than last year, when he was bagged the prestigious award by AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, while Oblak finished third.
Alisson, who had another stellar month for Liverpool, is the only other previous winner of the award after receiving the inaugural award in 2019 when Manchester City’s Ederson finished third.
The Liverpool and Ederson keeper have been nominated again after sharing the Golden Glove last season and both netting 20 times in the Premier League.
Ederson was a vital part of the City squad to win the title, while Alisson won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup with Liverpool.
Courtois makes the list after a standout campaign for Real that culminated in victory over Liverpool in the Champions League final, which came after his side took the LaLiga crown.
