Actress Spencer Grammer says she tried to calm an agitated man when he slapped her in the arm and stabbed her boyfriend in the back of a New York restaurant.
Rammer, 36, told Us Weekly that she and her boyfriend were “doing what someone else would do in the same situation” and “were trying to keep the fight from escalating” when they were attacked.
Grammer and her 32-year-old friend sat at an outdoor table at The Black Ant in Manhattan’s East Village neighborhood on Friday at around 11:30 PM, when the man strolled and demanded that he be served while the restaurant closed.
Grammer and her friend were injured as they “attempted to resolve a dispute between the unidentified male and other patrons at the site,” police said.
The man ran away after injuring Grammer in the right arm and her friend in the lower back with an unknown sharp object, police said. No arrests have been made.
Grammer, who voices Summer on Rick And Morty cartoon and previously starred in the comedy series Greek, is the daughter of Frasier star Kelsey Grammer and actress Doreen Alderman.
Grammer said she and her friend both expect to recover soon. Neither was seriously injured internally, she said.
In her statement to US Weekly, Grammer thanked the first responders and Bellevue Hospital staff who treated them and noted the “incredible battle” these workers have fought against the coronavirus pandemic.
“It was very touching for us to thank them personally,” said Grammer.
