343 Industries focuses on the graphics of Halo Infinite; Agrees that that level of fidelity and overall presentation should be improved
Further to last week’s Xbox Series X Showcase featuring Halo Infinite Campaign gameplay, developer 343 Industries commented on the game’s graphics.
At Microsoft’s showcase last week, 343 Industries featured Infinite’s first-ever campaign gameplay, and as we mentioned, the footage shown was based on an earlier build of the game. In a new blog post on the Halo Waypoint, the developer has addressed now received feedback on Infinite’s more classic art style and visual fidelity, and agreed that work should be done on the overall presentation and level of fidelity before launch.
“Based on our lessons from Halo 4, Halo 5 and Halo Wars 2 – along with strong community feedback – we decided to go back to the legacy aesthetic that defined the original trilogy”, 343 Industries writes. “With Halo Infinite we return to a more ‘classic’ art style, a key message that goes back to the very first revelation that generated enthusiastic and positive reactions. This translates into a more vibrant palette, ‘cleaner’ models and objects with less ‘noise’, but that means no less detail. While we realize that this is not everyone’s personal preference, we support this decision and are happy that it resonates with so many fans around the world. “
The developer continued, “The second theme that is addressed is visual fidelity. Negative feedback in this area includes comments on characters and objects that appear flat, simplistic and plastic-like, lighting that feels dull and flat, and object pop-in. We’ve read your comments, we’ve seen the homemade retouched content samples, and yes, we’ve heard Digital Foundry’s reviews. In many ways, we agree – we have work to do to address some of these areas and increase the level of fidelity and overall presentation for the last game. The build used to run the campaign demo was work in progress several weeks ago with a variety of graphics and game systems still finished and polished. ”
According to 343 Industries, some of the feedback received from the community was expected and work has already started. However, there are some things around detail, clarity and overall fidelity that have been brought to light that the developer takes very seriously.
“While some of the feedback was expected and relates to already ongoing areas, oother aspects of the feedback have revealed new opportunities and considerations that the team takes very seriously and is assessing. We don’t have final answers or results to share yet, but the team is working on plans as soon as possible to address some of the feedback around details, clarity and overall fidelity. The team is committed and focused to ensure we have a beautiful world for players to discover when we start. “
It’s good to learn that 343 Industries is taking the feedback from the community seriously and that the team is already actively improving the visual reliability and overall presentation of the game prior to the game’s launch later this year.
Halo Infinite will appear alongside Xbox Series X during this year’s holiday season.
