With an Oscar, Bafta and three Golden Globes, it’s fair to say that Olivia Colman isn’t your average school gate mom.

But the star has credited her family, especially the dogs, for keeping her grounded while her Hollywood career took off.

The 48-year-old said: ‘My dog is still not in the kitchen. Normal things still happen – you still have to clean it up and you remember, this is normal life. Kids want you to drive them around like a taxi.’

Colman married college sweetheart Ed Sinclair in 2001 and they have two teenage boys, Finn and Hall, and a daughter born in 2015 whose name has never been made public.

The Favorite star once revealed that her kids weren’t interested in her career, saying, “They don’t mind. It’s not the most important part of our day. Mama has a job and she loves it and she’s very happy.’

The actress revealed last year that their dog, Alfred Lord Waggyson - named after the poet Lord Tennyson - had diabetes and required insulin injections twice a day. She added: 'He's very brave and now he's all bright and sparkly again'

Colman first worked with her screenwriter husband last year on the drama Landscapers, based on the true story of the double murderers Susan and Christopher Edwards.

She said she couldn’t have seen the role of Susan move to another actress, as Ed spent six years researching and writing the drama.

But when interviewed by Graham Norton, she suggested that it hadn’t been all smooth sailing working with her other half: “We now know I’m doing my thing and he’s doing his thing, and we’re not allowed to talk about it — he tried to give me a note, which went down like a cup of cold.’

The star of The Crown will now be part of Disney’s Marvel Universe, and American movie fans are tipping her as the British equivalent of Captain America.

Rumor has it that Colman will play a gender-swapped version of the Marvel superhero Union Jack.
