A star of Australia’s No. 1 show has come out to reveal its secrets.

dr. David Craig, better known to millions of viewers as Channel 10’s Hunted lead researcher, claims the reality TV thriller is “as real as it gets.”

Hunted follows 18 contestants who go on the run as they try to avoid being captured by a team of former intelligence agents and police officers led by Craig.

The gripping series, in which contestants must evade captivity while being chased by a team of surveillance experts, averaged 1.09 million viewers nationwide in nine episodes.

Australian Federal Police veteran has defended the show after viewers claimed it was ‘fake’ reload TV Apple podcast on Tuesday.

After participating in chase simulations of the highest professional standards around the world, he congratulated Hunted’s production team on their efforts.

“It’s the most realistic experience that can be created that isn’t real,” he said.

The 58-year-old, hero of such high-profile cases as the Bali bombings in 2005, appealed to skeptics who claimed a camera crew tracking the fugitives had ruined the show space.

“That’s a legitimate question,” Craig said candidly.

“The way it’s done in production is there aren’t two fugitives on the run, there are three and one is carrying a camera.”

He said the cameramen who followed the fugitives endured the same hardships as the participants who were on the run.

Elsewhere in the chat, Craig addressed other critiques of the show, including why there seem to be so many coincidences.

Why were the fighters always one step ahead of their targets?

“We’ve been chasing every lead,” Craig explained. “It would be very boring TV if they showed all our false leads.”

Hunted Australia is the breakthrough television of the year and Channel 10 has already launched a second season.

Craig said fans can look forward to the fugitives having a lot more tools at their disposal.

Earlier this week, the show sparked controversy when the Andrews government reprimanded Hunted for “failing to apply for a permit” before filming within Victoria’s Metro rail network.

Shot in Victoria earlier this year, Hunted included several scenes filmed at Flinders Street Station and in public rail cars.

Rob and Stathi won Hunted Australia in Tuesday’s final.

In the nail-biting closing moments, the men were taken away in a helicopter on a beach in Inverloch after the fighters were unable to catch them.
